'Azam Humayun

'Azam Humayun
(?-1520)
Ahmad Khan, son of Khan-i Jahan Lodi, was entitled 'Azam Humayun by Sultan Sikandar Lodi (1489-1517). In the war of succession that followed Sikandar Lodi's death in 1517, 'Azam Humayun initially sided with Prince Jalal against Ibrahim Lodi. Later, having switched sides, he besieged Jalal in the fort of Gwalior. Soon after Jalal's elimination, 'Azam Humayun and his sons were removed from service by Ibrahim Lodi. This precipitated a rebellion. In the ensuing struggle, the rebels were defeated and 'Azam Humayun was imprisoned. While in prison, he, along with a number of important nobles suspected of disloyalty by Ibrahim Lodi, died in a contrived explosion (1520).
